5 Minutes to Fitness+ Club coming soon!

Alison race

Alison shares a valuable lesson that proves she has truly earned her new and permanent status as “fit girl”.

Alison: You can bother reading this entire blog if you want to, but I can sum the whole thing up into one simple sentence: Listen to the experts.

I see you’ve stuck around for the unabridged version.  Fine, here goes: as most of you know, in the last two years I’ve gone from being an overweight slug with a severe ice cream addiction to a 3 time half marathon runner and one time (and counting ) triathlete. more »

Alison’s back; You’ll never look at a squirrel and white flour bagel the same again- Really!

5 Minutes to Fitness+ Club coming soon!

Squirrel with bagel

I will let you know how my Virginia trip ended up on the next post, but first:

I wish I could say that getting and staying healthy was a piece of cake (no pun intended).  You know as well as I do that it takes work, physically and mentally, to stay fit.  Read how Alison uses a bagel and squirrel as a sign to stay the course and do what must be done.  (and yes, for some bizarre reason you can find a picture of a squirrel with a bagel doing a google search. I love it!!!)

Alison- I know; you’re expecting to read about my latest adventures.  What is Alison up to now?  Did she make summit at Kilimanjaro?  Open a Martial Arts school?  Pick up crocodile wrestling as a hobby? more »

So now, Alison is on a bike training for her 1st traithlon. We never know where we’ll find her. Read about her harrowing account of the “Harriman Hills”!

Alison:

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog about how I changed my internal identity from “Fat Girl” to “Fit Girl”.  The problem that I discovered today, though, is that “Fat Girl” is the one who has all the old friends. more »

She’s done it again!  Incredible, honest and inspiring.

Alison- My mom often quotes the following phrase: “People plan, and God laughs.”  And where did I most recently think of this saying?  During the half marathon I ran this morning. more »

PKF client, Alison, is on her way to her 3rd 1/2 marathon and she hit a “wall”. Read how she got around it……

Alison- This afternoon I was on my long run when something amazing happened.  No, I didn’t figure out an algorithm to determine the winning lottery numbers (though I’m working on that ).  I stopped.  I don’t mean that I slowed down my pace.  I came to a complete halt.

Let me give you some background.   more »

Peter K and Ali Scotland run 2010

Here’s a picture of Alison and Peter K from the recent Scotland Run 10k in NYC.

“Give it up, Fat Girl.  You’ll never make it.  Just go home.”

No, this isn’t a blog about my high school basketball tryouts.  I heard this on my run yesterday morning.  And no, there weren’t a bunch of bullies in front of me tormenting another kid.  That conversation went on inside my own head. more »

Well, Alison’s done it again. This time by talking to her back and knee

Read about Alison 2nd half marathon experience. You’ll love it!

My alarm goes off at 3:45 AM, but there’s no point to it; I’m already up.  Today is my half marathon.  I’m not up because I’m nervous.  I’m awake because I’m in a lot of pain.

I have been training for this half marathon for 3 months.  Not only that, but I have also been training for a triathlon in June at the same time.  Since January 1st, I have swum 11.3 miles, run 224 miles, and taken 12 spinning classes.  I’ve done 4,260 pushups, 2,840 squats, and 2,130 lunges.  And as of last Monday, I can barely walk a step without wanting to cry. more »

Alison realizes why she gets up at 4 am to run 12 miles!

Alison’s 1st triathlon, swimming, and why the pool guy doesn’t like her

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Here she is again, updating us on the trials and tribulations of being a new athlete.  I love when Alison sends me these updates. I smile and often laugh out loud at her honesty, humility and triumphs.

I don’t think Jim likes me very much.  It’s not that I’ve ever been rude to Jim, or done anything to offend him.  Jim doesn’t like me because I make him work.

Let me explain: Jim is the lifeguard at my health club.  I joined a gym in January in order to train for the triathlon I’m doing in June.  My running has a pretty solid foundation and doesn’t really require a gym, but sadly, more »

Girl in hot tub with drink1

“Come on, Alison.  You can do this! Other people do it all the time!  You will live through this!”

No, I am not at the gym, trying to get through that insane workout with the personal trainer whose arms are like tree trunks and believes a person should repeatedly bench press their own weight.  I am sitting at home on my own couch, trying to get through my first true rest day in over a year and a half.

Let me explain.  I met Peter K when he came to speak at my company on July 21, 2008.  more »
