You know what a breakthrough is? For me it’s when a client hears something that instantly releases them from what’s holding them back from better health. Recently, when a client heard someone tell her she didn’t have to like exercise or healthy foods, she had an epiphany. If you don’t know, that’s an, “oh sh*t”, moment. Soon after hearing that, she lost 6 lbs by sticking to her health routine.
You may remember someone telling you, “There are some things in life that you just have to do”. You don’t have to love doing, “healthy things”. It’s seems more logical to love what doing those things can provide; energy, vitality, self-confidence, happiness and love.
Today, keep your ears open, for someone may say something that helps you break-through.
It’s easy to fall into a melancholy mood this time of year. The days are shorter, the weather is cold and the holidays are over. I often feel this way myself. Try these strategies to feel better and create something to look forward to. This worked for me recently as I decided to write my third book: more »
Have you ever felt overwhelmed, helpless, even a slight tightness in your chest? I know, dumb question right? Well what can we do about it? I have a technique I use very often with my clients and myself- insight: I get these feelings too.
Try these powerful stress strategies to disengage from your current thought process. (Hint- your current thought process is what keeps you stuck feeling this way)
Disengage from what you’re doing completely. Do this when you don’t know what to do to feel better. Examples- get up from your desk and walk outside, or go somewhere you’ve never been before or talk to a total stranger- anything to engage your mind in a unique behavior or activity that it must focus on instead of how lousy you feel.
Smile as big as you can and think about a favorite place you’d love to be right now.
Take 3 deep breaths and relax your shoulders while sitting or standing as tall as you can.
Now that you broke your negative thought cycle, come up with one simple action step to directly affect why you’re feeling stressed.
Take that step right now. Don’t wait. When you take a step toward addressing your stress you will empower yourself.
We were scheduled to shoot a great healthy food segment at world famous Serafina in NYC when the heavens opened up, soaked us, we showed up at the wrong location and our camera got smashed. We had to cancel the shoot.
What did we do? We ate. But wait, not emotional eating with chips and eclairs. We were treated to a delicious lunch, (see above- whole wheat pizza and bronzino fish), by the generous Serafina team.
The lesson:
When all goes wrong, smile and surround yourself with great people
Stay in control. Eat energizing foods, not fattening, sugary, life draining foods. You’ll feel worse
Everything happens for a reason. FInd a good reason and move on
I was driving home the other day and my mind was ricocheting between the emails I have to answer, proposals I had to draw up for new clients, and projects that are due for my new Fit Friends’ Revolution Club. more »
I saw this needlepoint in a store recently and it made me smile. You mean you and I aren’t the only ones that get frustrated, stressed, overwhelmed and sometimes, driven to our knees It makes me feel better to know someone like Abraham Lincoln found life challenging at times while still accomplishing great things. Thanks Abe!
That’s the question I ask myself every time I’m super stressed. ”Does it really matter anyway”, or “Will this matter when I look back at the end of my life. Whether it’s money, mean people, frustration, supposed failure or whatever, what will matter most to me?
Make a list of what you value most and think about it when the ____ hits the fan :-0 Here are some examples we can use:
Have we loved the children in our lives
Did we have fun?
Who’s life have we made better?
What is our legacy?
Did we accomplish the dreams we had as children?
I hope this helps you as much as it does me! I feel better already
My new acquaintance above, who lives at the Time Warner Center in NYC, seems to be a little bloated and stressed. Someone once told me we are the sum of the 5 people we hang around with most. Join the club to readmore »
I was reminded of a valuable lesson from nature about how we shouldn’t respond to stress during my recent trip to Virginia visiting Thomas Jefferson’s home. As I was taking the short video below for my kids I had an epiphany; this plant can teach us what not to do when we are faced with a stressful situation.
But first I have to ask you a question. What’s the first thing we do when we’re stressed, before reaching for the super duper double fudge brownie, deep fried, and sprinkled with carmelized sugar? (That’s actually a dessert). We usually retreat back to our comfort zone. What that does is keep us stuck in our rut, never letting us get over the hump to realize success. Watch this video and think about how you react to stress, then come up with new ways to react that will keep you out of your comfort zone and help you move forward.
