Here’s John during a coaching session in Bryant Park, NYC. He tell me this is his favorite “5 Minutes to Fitness+” move. Not because it’s the easiest
, but because he feels most powerful. Now that’s positive thinking. Align how you move your body, with what you want most, and you will be more powerful in mind and body, like John. When John pulls on that band, he’s not just pulling on that band; he’s connecting what he wants most in his mind to his body movement, confirming it, strengthening it. That’s the power of exercise that few people know and use. Now you know.
He was also inspired to write about what the word diet means to him. I think you’ll like how he candidly explores his challenges…

I recently blogged about the best reason to get healthy and it was all about doing it for the children in our lives. You can see it here .
A friend just sent the graph above to me. It indicates the 1 out 3 children in the US are obese or overweight. This is an excerpt:
“The report also includes obesity rates among youths ages 10-17, and the results of a new poll on childhood obesity conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and American Viewpoint. The poll shows that 80 percent of Americans recognize that childhood obesity is a significant and growing challenge for the country, and 50 percent of Americans believe childhood obesity is such an important issue that we need to invest more to prevent it immediately. The survey also found that 84 percent of parents believe their children are at a healthy weight, but research shows nearly one-third of children and teens are obese or overweight. Obesity rates among youths ages 10-17 from the 2007 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) also were included in the 2009 F as in Fat report. Data collection for the next NSCH will begin in 2011. Currently, more than 12 million children and adolescents are considered obese.”

I’m in Tampa/St Petersburg Florida to shoot 2 new videos for the 5 Minutes to Fitness+ Club (coming summer 2010) and I’m saving precious calories, like money in the bank. Why? Well, first, I’ll be shooting videos on the beach and don’t want to feel/look like a bloated manatee.
Saving calories for foods you really want to indulge in is a smart way to stay fit, in control and on track. Example- a client recently told me she won’t waste calories on a mediocre glass of wine. It’s got to be the good stuff.
So, I’ll be delaying gratification because I don’t know what great food and drinks await me and when I find what I want to splurge on, I won’t feel guilty. The crazy thing is sometimes nothing seems worth the extra calories so I’m ahead of the game and feeling and looking great. Most importantly, my pants will fit great in the morning and tomorrow will bring another day I start in control with the power to decide what I will indulge in. Now that’s living a fit lifestyle and enjoying it.
Stay tuned for more posts from Florida!

This past Sunday I ate enough food to fill a hollow leg. I’m 6′4″ tall. That’s a ton of food. But I’m not a bit worried. Why?
Because I did 20 minutes of my band workout and took a 2 hour bike ride with friends in the morning. And today I worked out twice and am eating incredibly well. No I’m not obsessed about my weight. I just love to wake up in the morning, put my pants on and have them fit. Great way to start the day.
But the true secret to staying fit and getting back on track is eating great. No matter what, if you’re in control of your eating, you will look and feel amazing. Take control of your eating by keeping a food log & finding a mentor right now. Hint- I know one who’s 6′ 4″ tall with a hollow leg: and he’s waiting for you!

You must know by now that white rice is not a great choice, right? Well, a recent study brought to my attention by Maria, (PKF client), confirms what we already knew; white rice can raise your risk of diabetes. The great news; brown rice does the exact opposite and lowers the risk of diabetes. If you haven’t already, please make the shift to brown rice for yourself and the kids in your life.

Great music with a strong beat and meaningful lyrics can inspire us to get out of our funk and be great. I recently found this energizing song:
It’s just over 5 minutes long. Perfect for those 5 minute intervals!
