Alison’s Blog: Running in a pool on a unicycle, but without the unicycle: the pain continues

deep water running

The picture above demonstrates how Alison has to complete her marathon training runs because of  her injuries.  Deep water running for 10, even 20 minutes might be bearable, but try 90 minutes. That’s just what she willed herself to do recently .  Read on as Alison continues to overcome obstacle after obstacle. I’ve heard from many of you and the answer is yes, she is a remarkable person. No matter the outcome, she is a winner and nothing will stop her. more »

I love to read Alison’s blog because I can live through her challenges, hear how she uses strategies we work on, then succeeds. It’s nice to know someone’s listening. Here she uses 2 powerful secrets, break down goals into small chunks, and visualize your success. Read how she uses that to run 18 miles. more »

Alison’s Blog: Seventeen mile run- done

Alison brooklyn_half_1

Alison asked me to coach her for her upcoming 17 mile run as she prepares for her 1st marathon this November.  I love to remind her how far she’s come since we first met.  A dozen or so 1/2 marathons and triathlons later, she continues to step out of her comfort zone and succeed. I hope you are stepping out of your comfort zone and realizing you have something special to accomplish and share, like Alison.   Read on… more »

Peter K and Ali Scotland run 2010 cropped

If you’re reading this on Sunday morning, May 1st, before 10 am, then right now I’m running a 1/2 marathon.  If it’s after 11am, you’ve caught me in the middle of devouring a whole pizza and washing it down with Buffalo wings :-) Don’t worry, I won’t gain a pound, I just burned over 1000 cals :-) ! more »

Alison:

I’m going to start this blog by reminding you that I’m a data analyst. Not only does this mean that I’m ridiculously intelligent ☺, but that I’m also extremely organized. My spices are alphabetized in the pantry, the sweaters in my closet are sorted by color, and when I unpack my bag at the gym, I put everything in my locker in the opposite order in which I will need it, so that I don’t have to dig through my stuff to find anything. My husband jokes that he’s waiting for the day that I turn to the kids and say, “OK! The spontaneous fun will begin in 10 minutes!” more »

Peter and Jane freezing

The picture above contains either two fools or two successful people, depending on how you look at it. (and I’m not referring to Jane’s hat :-)  Jane is training for her 2nd 1/2 marathon and we train outside regardless of the weather, whenever possible.  It was 12 degrees on our last run and the tears in our eyes were more »

Alison: I want to start this blog by saying that it’s all Peter K’s fault.

Now, before you block his website permanently from your computer, let me explain. About a year and a half ago, I was working out during a health coaching session with Peter, when he asked me seven simple words that changed my life: “Hey, Al, have you ever tried running?” I replied to that sentence with words that I can’t repeat in this G-rated blog, more »

Alison qualifying_race_20101205

That’s Alison above qualifying for the NYC Marathon. You never know what you’re capable of so never limit yourself!

Alison:  Last June I did my first triathlon ever, and Peter K did it as well. The bike course in this triathlon was 16 miles long, 3 of which were straight uphill. While I was pumping the pedals on my exceptionally heavy (i.e. crappy) bike and trying to determine if the burning sensation in my legs was just my muscles working so hard or if my quads had actually caught fire, Peter easily caught up to me. He was smiling, enjoying the workout and barely breathing hard (the way I remember it, he was sipping an iced green tea at the same time, but I think I was just hallucinating at that point). Anyway, more »

Alison race

Alison:

During my 10 mile run this morning, I had the following conversation with myself:

Me: “Why am I doing this?”

Me: “Because you have to.”

Me (a little whinier this time): “But why do I have to?”

Me: “Because you don’t want to.”

That dialogue I had with myself was spawned by a phrase my husband, Wil, frequently utters: more »
