Peter K client and FFR member Liz Claman featured in Triathlete Mag!

I’ve been working with Fox Business News’s Liz Claman, (known as the Red Fox at FOX), for several years. She earned that nickname because she’s full of fire to better herself. As a client and FFR member, Liz has taught me as much about not giving up on a dream as I have taught her about living a fit lifestyle and overcoming her scoliosis and various injuries.  I applaud her recent pledge to donate all the money she raises for Building Home for Heroes as she competes in the NYC triathlon this weekend. Please follow the link to donate > Thank you if you already have!!!!

This week she was featured in Triathlete Mag > I asked her, “Did you ever think in a million years you’d be featured in Triathlete magazine? Here’s my favorite part :-)

“She called up Peter K (Peterkfitness.com), who had helped her train for the marathon: “I called him up and said, ‘You’ve gotta get me over this finish line. And by the way, I have a very challenging schedule and two little kids—good luck with that.’”

The only time she found she could train was at 5 a.m. every morning, so Peter K put together a whole training schedule for her. And when it came time to race, she loved the experience.

“To me, [racing] in New York City is such an emotional high and an amazing experience,” she says. “It’s really important for me to stress the words ‘Liz Claman’ and ‘athlete’ should never go together. … I was born with scoliosis, curvature of the spine, and was told I’d never be able to run long distances. And then I completed a marathon. So it’s all in your mind—your limitations are only what you allow them to be.”

There are several themes I’d like to share with you that tie into my work and relationship with Liz and the Fit Friends’ Revolution Club:

  • Surround yourself with great people and great things will happen to you.
  • No means Go; someone saying no is really someone challenging you to be your best.
  • All the success you have in life depends on your desire to be successful- from our friend Abe Lincoln
  • You don’t have to do this alone. Ask for help. It’s not a sign of weakness.

And here’s one last segment from timesunion.com that touches on the importance of our minds

Q: How do you train for a triathlon?

A: My training regime was designed by my coach, Peter K. of Peter K. Fitness. He absolutely does not believe in over-training or working me so hard that I get injured. We work on doing “bricks” (stringing 2 separate efforts together) like swimming for 45 minutes, then jumping on the bike for 40 minutes, or working with exercise bands and then running 3 miles. We spend a lot of time on mental preparation… the old “If you can dream it you can do it” mentality. Believe me: it works. Almost everyone who trains for these kinds of things is hit with doubt: can I really do it? What was I thinking signing up for this? Peter talks me through all of it.
