Healthy On The Go- NYC: How to eat what you want, and still be healthy…

Is being healthy an all or nothing deal?  Can you look great in your pants while still enjoying a double cheeseburger and cake?

I’m speaking in NYC today.  My presentation’s focused on helping people find an answer to this question, which many people ask me.

The answer is yes, you can have your cake and eat it too, while still looking good and being healthy.  Here’s one way to do it.

The 80/20 Rule

I follow an 80/20 rule when it comes to eating healthy. 80% of the time I eat healthy, 20% I indulge, if I choose too.  I started doing this about 15 years ago.  I’d go to the supermarket and think, “I can choose any food I want, no matter how unhealthy, just for this meal.”  I’d arrive and go straight for the hot dogs, potato chips and dip, soda, and pies and ice cream for dessert.  If you recall, I grew up on fast food.

But something strange would happen. Because I gave myself full permission to eat anything, my mind would look for healthier versions of the “junk foods” I craved.  You may recognize this as reverse psychology.  Want to get a child to stop screaming?  Tell them to scream louder.

The result; I would walk out of the supermarket with healthier indulgent options, still satisfying my craving while not feeling like I blew my diet.  I’ve been able to stay fit and look and feel great with this 80/20 rule. Give it a try, I think it may work for you as well.
